Cruise Menu

Our wonderful menu adds to the historic feel of our cruise.  We’re about local, hearty comfort food cooked with fire and passion on the ship's antique cast iron woodstove. All meals are laced with herbs and vegetables from Annie's garden. A strong emphasis is placed on fresh veggies and fruit, and always the highest-quality ingredients. Of course, you’ll have to use considerable will-power around the fresh baked goods at every meal!

Every morning you wake to the rich smell of freshly brewed coffee, roasted locally. The woodstove is stoked to the brim and Annie is churning out freshly baked bread such as caramelized onion bread, Irish soda bread, or whole wheat and walnut bread. Then it's time to cook a hearty breakfast (we don't mean bad for you!), whether it's fresh baked muffins, boiled eggs, yogurt and dried fruit, or Maine blueberry pancakes, slab bacon and sliced melon.

Lunch, often served on deck amid the sea air and rugged scenery, is usually a hot soup or stew such as curried lamb and lentil stew served with a spinach salad and an almond-honey dressing - and maybe one of the breads and desserts that came out of the oven earlier in the day. In the evening, everyone sits in the galley made cozy by the lighting of kerosene lanterns and fresh flowers on the table. You’ll enjoy our old-fashioned fruit pies or pumpkin ginger cheesecake, baked earlier in the day.

All of the meals are cooked or overseen by Chef & Co-captain Anne Mahle. She is the author of a cookbook At Home, At Sea: Recipes from the Maine Windjammer J&E Riggin featuring recipes that are prepared aboard the schooner. Chef Annie and the Riggin have appeard in National publications including Traditional Home, Boston Globe, Chicago Sun Times, Dallas Morning News, Family Circle, Women's Day and has appeared on NBC's Today Show, the Food Network, and NECN. Chef Annie also writes a column for the largest daily newspaper in Maine and on her recipe and lifestyle blog At Home & At Sea. Schooner Accommodations

As on any boat, our accommodations are cozy -- in other words, they aren't huge, but they are comfortable and clean. Most of our passengers, actually spend very little time in their cabin -- why would you when it's so gorgeous outside?

Our accommodations consist of nine double and two triple cabins, all featuring a number of wonderful touches including homemade quilts and soaps. Each cabin has a sink with cold running water, a reading light over each berth, and fresh sheets, warm blankets, pillows, and towels. Every cabin also has a porthole that provides light and can be opened for fresh air and ventilation. Our toilets ("heads") are clean and well ventilated and are located above deck. If you wish to rinse the salty sea air from your tresses, you'll be happy to know we have a hot freshwater shower, which is also on deck.
